An Introduction to Novel Quest

About us - James

I am truly passionate about reading and helping others begin their reading journey as an adult.

For many years I was much more of a binge watcher, whether that be tv shows, YouTube channels or films, I was much more likely to be spending my time in front of a screen. Then 2020 came around, a pesky little virus and a lockdown that left me hours on end without anything to do.

So I decided to do something I hadn’t done since I was a teenager and pick up a book and read. I have been hooked ever since. I have always enjoyed reading but felt like I never had the time or there was always something else to do.

As I began to get more interested in reading, I wasn’t really sure where to start. There was an abundance of series and standalone novels to choose and what seemed like an endless list of genres to dive into. As I have started to read more and aged a bit, I have discovered what I like and what I don’t like. Having missed out on so many years of reading, there is so much I have missed, so the need to establish what I like became so much more important to me.

Novel Quest has been set up to help people who are in the same situation I was in. Maybe they have fallen out of reading. Maybe they have never really red. Or maybe they are just too overwhelmed by choice. The reviews and blogs I write about are designed to help people find out what they would be interested in. To help them discover new series or realise that certain authors, genres/sub-genres, series or standalones just aren’t for them, without wasting their time and more importantly money. Because your to be read piles and and expenditure can soon rack up with this incredible hobby.

My aim with Novel Quest, is to make every review and piece of content I do be easily accessible. Reading and literature as a hobby can often times be heavily filled with gatekeepers and those that want to feel superior. Language used by other reviewers can be full of jargon and not easy to understand for those who have not read all their lives.

I like to keep things simple, my reviews will focus on the good, the bad and who I think will enjoy the book/series. I will try to advise whether new readers should try it, or whether you need to be a bit more familiar with genres/authors before trying. But I am certainly not qualified to discuss the ‘prose’, underlying messaging and quality of writing, as I am not a writer and I feel it is unfair to disparage someone else’s work and hard effort.
